HAND MADE BY KELSEY COPELAND

ARTIST BIO

Kelsey Copeland is a multi disciplinary artist and visual designer currently based on the Eastern Shore of Virginia & Maryland. Her work combines many mediums which include multi-layer paintings on sheer silk with coffee and acrylic and collage, one-of-a-kind hand-painted light fixtures, and sculptural wood and steel furnishings. Although her hand made pieces are wide ranging in medium, they all speak the same language- one that feels congruent with the quiet hum of the natural world. Her references are fossils, lichen, seashells, shadows, and the shocking beauty in decomposition and rebirth. Her works often explore the cycles of life and how we perceive time.

Kelsey was born in 1992 in rural Alabama, and then moved to coastal Virginia with her family. She received her degree in Interior Design at the New York School of Interior Design in 2014. She has been painting, sewing, and making things since she was a young girl. She started her own practice, Copeland Studio in 2020 in Richmond, and has since kept busy with a balance of residential interior design projects, custom furniture commissions, and an ongoing collection of visual art and bespoke furnishings. She uses adaptive reuse in all of her projects, which is an exploration of cycles, patterns, and limitations observed in human life on Earth.

Copeland Studio is a full service interior design and art studio that also specializes in furniture & lighting design, custom textiles, collaborative design, and research based curation.
